<title>Our first United Arab Emirates submission!</title>
<link>http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=33</link>
<description>We just added a very unique submission to the CoralPedia.com site. Although a bit late on our part, the submitter (spy_i) submitted these Zoanthids that were found in Dubai, UAE (United Arab Emirates)! Spy_i added in their notes that the salinity in Dubai is too high (in the upper 37 to lower 38 psu range) to form reefs and it came as quite a surprise to find Zoanthids there.

spy_i wrote: &quot;I currently live in Dubai and [stumbled] upon this zoa on the famous Madinat Hotel (opposite Burj Al Arab Hotel).  I was strolling along the hotel's man made creek when I saw like a beehive on the water dikes. [...] I personally collected this Zoa from the man made creek [...].  I never imagined that such life [would] have existed here in the waters of Dubai. I know that the level of salinity is too high that Dubai [doesn't] have any Reefs at all. I was looking around the macro's that [were] growing on the dike when I [noticed] a dark beehive like thing.  All I thought was a dark chocolatey sponge. Surprisingly, upon closer inspection, the blue center on the zoo just pierce thru its brown skirts. To my excitement I [quickly] pulled a small colony that was growing on a clam... then I realize this zoo is everywhere with big colonies matting on the side of the man made dikes.&quot;

Thanks for the submission and special treat, spy_i!

You can see spy_i's &quot;Green Eyed Arabs&quot; here:

You can see where other corals have been reportedly collected by visiting our CoralPedia's Coral Origins page.

Enjoy,

<description>This is a nice treat for Zoanthid aficionados. David Acevedo (Daceman) sent us these images that had all of us drooling! He wrote, &quot;About 4 months ago I was bored so I decided to take 1 polyp of each Nuclear green and Purple death and cut them in half and glue both sides together leaving me with 2 polyps of purple/green polyps on a disc. One died and the other lived.&quot; Thanks to David for sharing these nifty shots with us and keep up the mad scientist experiments!

<title>Oops - delayed submissions!</title>
<link>http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=29</link>
<description>Hello all,

We just realized that submissions were not being processed for about the last 2 months!! We apologize and will get working on them ASAP. It will take a little time to catch up, but we are on it. Luckily, no submissions were lost, they were just not being processed.

So - our apologies again, and please bare with us as we catch up on all 94 delayed submissions!

For those interested, here are the geeky details: We recently migrated web hosts at CoralPedia.com to a faster network. In doing so, we had an IP address change. Our submission system is locked down to authenticate at the IP address level for security reasons (amongst other measures). I forgot to add the new IP address as an authorized IP address to process the tickets. So the submissions just sat there instead of going through our helpdesk system. Once the new IP was authorized, 94 submissions over the last couple of months came rolling in!

Thanks,

<title>ZoaID.com expands to CoralPedia.com!</title>
<link>http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=18</link>
<description>Hello all,

After much thought and work, we at ZoaID.com have decided to expand to CoralPedia.com! This expansion will allow us to expand into the incredible world of SPS, LPS, and other coral hobbyist identifications.

Additionally, we will be adding a long-term request to the new site: Scientific Identification (Family, Genus, and Species) and color descriptions to all new submissions! These identifications will be to the best of our ability and we will be adding a few new council members experienced in coral identification. We will be going back and adding identification to older submissions as well.

We are very excited about this expansion and hope that you are too! The site has been migrated to the new domain, and we continue to complete that migration even as you read this. If you find any bugs, please let us know by using the 'Contact Us' link on the left-hand menu.

As of the time stamp on this writing, there are over 320 Zoanthid submissins and only a few LPS and SPS submissions. We expect these numbers to grow quickly to over 50 entries within the next month, and the sky is the limit from there! We are now accepting submissions for all corals, so feel free to send us your tank shots and flash shots of your favorite named corals!

Thank you,
 - CoralPedia.com council</description>

<title>Photo of the Month</title>
<link>http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=12</link>
<description>We thought CoralPedia.com would start something new - the CoralPedia.com Photo of the Month! (POTM)

The POTM will be a monthly shot chosen by the CoralPedia.com council as their favorite photo submitted to CoralPedia.com for that month. The winning photo will not necessarily be a newly named coral submission to the CoralPedia.com site. Photographs of already named corals or other coral-genre material are constantly being submitted and added to the CoralPedia.com site - and we don't want to exclude those shots from the POTM!

So enjoy the new feature, and see what we like the best! The winner will be published on the CoralPedia.com homepage.

As a reminder, you can click on the left-hand menu titled 'Changelog' and see all new submissions (newly named submissions or just new shots) added to the site at any time. In fact, this is exactly what the CoralPedia.com council uses to preview the shots submitted for that month!

Enjoy,

<title>jreimer's shot's come to ZoaID.com!</title>
<link>http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=11</link>
<description>James (jreimer) is a researcher from Japan specializing in Zoanthids/Zooxanthellae. Recently, James hit the RC Zoanthid community with a wealth of scientific identification knowledge and interesting Zoanthid identification news. He is currently trying to use DNA to bring zoanthid taxonomy up-to-date.

He has been so kind as to share some of his pictures with all of us and recently accepted ZoaID.com's offer to host his scientific identification images on our hobbyist identification site! We've setup a special section in our gallery for his current shots with lots of room to grow!

Not only is the scientific identification extremely interesting, his shots are incredible as well! Please check them out here:

<title>'Owner' bug fixed!</title>
<link>http://www.coralpedia.com/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=10</link>
<description>A 'bug' was recently pointed out to me regarding the owners of the shots/albums on ZoaID.com. It wasn't so much a 'bug' so much as a 'feature', but I can totally see how it could have been misinterpreted!

Basically, each album/photo would display an 'Owner' tag at the top right of the page. This 'Owner' represented who did the uploading to the ZoaID.com site. For instance, 'Mr. Smith' submitted a shot to ZoaID.com, and 'whodah' uploaded the shot. The site previously showed 'whodah' as the 'Owner' and 'Mr. Smith' as the photographer, original ID'er, etc..

It was never our intentions to take credit for the Zoanthid shots. In fact, we take pride in having permission to use each and every picture while giving credit where credit is due for each individual shot here on ZoaID.com! It took a while longer than anticipated, but I've figured out how to disable that 'Owner' tag to put the issue to rest.

I apologize for the confusion and hope that those who noticed this bug understand!

Here is a screenshot of the issue:
Owner 'bug' on ZoaID.com

Thanks,
